Poached Pear in Red Wine -

Ingredients:

  • 2 small pears 
  • ½ cup red wine 
  • 1 medium orange, zested and squeezed
  • 2 ½ tbsp brown sugar 
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 cloves
  • 1 anise seed 
  • 1 cardamom seed
  • 2 tbsp mascarpone cheese, for serving (optional)

 

*for 2 serving

 

Instructions:

 

  1. Peel the pears, cut them in half, clean the inside and remove the seeds. 
  2. Leave a 1cm margin from the stem and make the 0.3 cm wide vertical cuts. Its shape looks like an oyster shell.
  3. Add all the ingredients except the pears to the pot. Heat the sauce and stir for a few minutes until the sugar dissolves.
  4. When the sugar dissolves, put it on low heat and put the pears in the sauce. Cook for 30-35 minutes, turning the pears every 5 minutes until the sauce thickens and the pears soften. 
  5. Cool it down and serve it with vanilla ice cream or mascarpone cheese.
